If you focus close, you can also achieve a smooth and buttery bokeh with round out-of-focus areas in the background.

The lens has an aperture of f/1.7 so if you're shooting portraits you're going to get a nice shallow depth of field and a good amount of bokeh and the bokeh that you do get is very smooth.
