Both have to do with how you mount the camera on the top of the tripod.
But if you mount the plate that comes with the tripod, the Peak Design plate, onto the camera, that plate fits beautifully into the tripod head.
Great if you're using the capture clip, but if you're using another Arca-Swiss base plate, then you'll want to remove these, otherwise it won't fit.
