But the line really found its feet with the A7S II in 2015, which was capable of recording 4K video internally, and so earned a loyal following among filmmakers for its compact size, excellent footage and remarkable low-light capability.
It may stick with the 12 Megapixel resolution of its predecessors to maximise sensitivity, but employs a new sensor with confident phase-detect autofocus and a wealth of movie modes including unlimited 4k up to 120p with 10 bit internal recording.
This is the only camera in its class that can shoot 4K at 60p full frame with no crop, recorded internally, in 10-bit 4:2:2 with no limitations on recording time and such a choice of video codecs.
